When using the internet to advertise horses or services for sale, sellers need to be wary of current scams. Eq-Western.com would like to increase awareness, so users are not victimized.
**It is your responsibility to be familiar with current internet scams and responding to email queries is done at your own risk.
There have been instances of sellers being contacted by potential buyers who offer to buy your horse sight unseen or after having only seen pictures. They then send you more money than the selling price of the horse and you are asked to refund them the difference. After you ship your horse away, you find out that the cheque they sent was counterfeit.
There are variances of the above scam and they may include interest in purchasing tack, frozen semen or other items not just horses; however, most scams seem to have commonalities such as emails from foreign countries using free email accounts, poor English and grammar, and misspelled words.
Eq-Western.com encourages buyers and sellers to always meet in person before finalizing the sale of any horse, service or item. If a buyer makes an offer that seems to be too good...it probably is.
If you are contacted by someone whom you believe is trying to run a scam or you receive a response to your ad that seems in any way suspicious, do not respond and contact us to let us know.
